Should I have a dental implant?

Dental implants can make a huge change in the quality of your life.  The replacement of dentures in any patient can make life more fulfilling.  Until recently, dentures have been the solution to replacing lost teeth. But dentures may look unnatural and dentures can often make chewing and talking, as well as kissing, embarrassing and difficult. They can also cause further problems with the gums and underlying bone.

Dental implants are an ideal way to transform your smile as they look and feel just like your own teeth.  They are also often stronger than your own teeth and are fixed into your jaw and surrounded by the gums, so there is no chance that they will slip or fall out.  You may elect to substitute a single or several missing tooth with an implant supported crown(s).  Or you may choose to replace your dentures with a complete fixed prosthesis (substitute replacement teeth) or just add two implants to help retain a denture.  Whatever your situation, implants can often be a great option to improve your quality of life.  If you still have teeth, none of your other teeth are affected and implants actually strengthen the bone and gum tissue into which they're fixed. You can smile, laugh, talk, chew, bite and kiss with confidence.

Dental implants are suitable for anyone aged 18 to and past 90, depending on teh strength and shape of the bone and the medical/dental history of the patient. Apart from using mouthwashes after eating sweet or acid foods, implant restorations need the same treatment as your own teeth - just regular brushing with a non-abrasive toothpaste and flossing, combined with regular checks by your dentist/hygienist.
